The average American is estimated to send 94 text messages per day, or over 33,000 texts each year (Text Request). And that doesn’t even account for direct messages on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. We are more connected than ever before, mere milliseconds away from communicating with someone on the other side of the globe. Yet we are simultaneously seeing a rise in loneliness, a trend that began prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and has accelerated since. According to a national survey by Cigna in 2018, “loneliness levels have reached an all-time high, with nearly half of 20,000 U.S. adults reporting they sometimes or always feel alone,” and with forty percent of participants reporting they “sometimes or always feel their relationships are not meaningful.” (APA)
There is no doubt that technological advances in communications have had a positive impact on society. However, we see a through line between the growing dependency on technology and a rise in isolation and loneliness. As our ability to communicate widens, our connection with others is diminishing.
The Postcard Club began with a simple idea: to provide you with a convenient, classic, and meaningful way to connect with loved ones. The practice of sending handwritten letters has survived for thousands of years for a reason. Taking the time to disconnect, write a personal message to a loved one, and drop it in the mail has so much more meaning than an email or a Zoom call. The people you write to will derive so much joy from seeing your handwriting and knowing you were intentional in making sure they feel loved.
Join the Snail Mail Revolution. Make a stand for the people in your life by connecting with them in a meaningful way and reminding them they are not alone. Start by subscribing to The Postcard Club. We will provide the cards, and you can give them meaning.
